5 steps to become a "runner"

This text, despite its title, applies to both men and women, but is a voluntary tribute to women who constitute 61,4% of participants in the 4 Corporate Challenge of 2017, in the provinces. (english follows)

Pride ladies! The boys...? Why not you...?

Here are the 5 steps to become a “real” runner:

1 - reflection

This is THE first step. The reflection we have in the shower, watching TV, at a family dinner, on the road that takes you to work, to the convenience store, just before bedtime, in the changing room at the pool, in the stands from an arena, to the funeral home. The reflection attached to the question: "Why not me?" You think about it for a few seconds during a supper while your brother recounts his last marathon with emotions. Your jealous proud of him. "Why not me ?" You are still thinking about it at the grocery store, when you run into Nancy who invites you to the party for Manon's 40th birthday. You seek your breath at the top of the 14 steps at the office, between 2 sips of coffee. "Why not me ?" You think about it while having dinner, cup of wine in hand. You still think it would do you good to find yourself ... with children just alone… outside… "Why not me?" You don't know it yet, but it's already motivating you.

2 - The process

This is the second step, leading to the first "time"! You google (s) on jogging, on running. You talk about it at dinner with the kids, just because you're proud. You've already texted your boyfriend to tell him. His answer ? Suspension points ending with a question mark:…? (see picture) You don't know it yet, but it's already motivating you.

You discuss it with colleagues, friends. They encourage you, they advise you and some tell you "You are lucky to have time for this" ! You don't know it yet, but it's already motivating you. You mend ideas and advice and start shopping. You print, in color, a program "Beginner" of the runner's clinic. You're like a child on december 25 with his credit card in front of the Christmas tree. You unbox your new life!

3 - the first step

This is the third step. The first time ! Everything is ready since the day before, at the foot of the bed, well placed and folded. You even prepared 2 playlists. You charged the batteries of the cell and your watch, new and beautiful. She smells like new, as Uncle Raymond would say. It is blue (or turquoise), like the ocean water that awaits you for the next vacation. You think about it by telling yourself that you will be proud to put on your bikini in 7 months. You smirk in front of your new shoes (without heels). You haven't left yet and you already see yourself with 10 pounds less. You don't know it yet, but it's already motivating you. You left a note on the table explaining your journey for your spouse with a little "You come with me tomorrow ...? » at the bottom of the route, not forgetting the suspension points and the question mark!

4 - The sixth week

After a few rides and kilometers, you first feel a mental satisfaction. You're feeling good. You feel pride, a sense of accomplishment, of well-being. You start the secretion of endorphins and a little addiction to all that. You don't know it yet, but it's already motivating you. Your children are looking for you ...? "Mum is surely gone for a run." It is the transitional phase that mixes pleasure with benefits.

5 - The vaporization of endorphins

You run every week. You love it. You run even when you don't have time. You run even when you have a cold. You run in the morning, at noon or in the evening. You talk about jogging, equipment, and your last runs. You run while your boyfriend is having dinner. You run when the children are in bed. You run on Saturday morning, after your coffee, with the dog, or while the youngest is in hockey #hockeymom. You spend hours in pajama espadrilles and you need them in your life. They are your new best friends. You sleep more better and you eat better. Your smile, your good humor and your snacks "health" make people jealous. You forgot for 1 month to take your weight. Yet it was a weekly obsession! You don't know, but you've lost 11 pounds. You become an inspiration, a vaporizer ofendorphins. People are looking at you in secret, by pressing their curtains with the index finger of their left hand… and… You don't know it yet, but it's already being used as motivation… for the neighbor who says to himself, watching you run in your street : "Why not me ...?»

5 Steps to Becoming a Runner

These 5 steps are for all runners- both men and women, but we've noticed that in 2017, 61.4% of Défi Entreprises participants were women so this article is a tribute to women thinking about running.

Ladies, be proud of yourselves!

And men…? Why don't you…?

1- Thinking about it

Thinking about it is the first stage. Thinking while you're in the shower, watching TV, eating dinner with your family, driving to work, shopping, just before going to bed, in the pool change room or while watching a game. Asking yourself “why not me?” You're thinking about it at dinner while your brother is excitedly talking about the last marathon he ran. You're proud of him. “Why not me?” You're thinking about it again while at the grocery store when all of a sudden you bump into Nancy who invites you to Manon's 40th birthday party. You're catching your breath after climbing 14 steps at work, between 2 sips of coffee. “Why not me?” You're thinking about it while making dinner, a glass of wine in your hand. You're thinking once again how nice it would be to be on your own for a while… outside… “why not me?” You don't know it yet, but it already motivates you.

2- Starting

This is the second stage that leads to the first try! You google jogging and running. You talk about it with your kids at dinner, just because you're proud. You already texted your partner about it. Their answer? Dot dot dot followed by a question mark…? You don't know it yet, but it already motivates you.

You talk about it with your colleagues and friends. They encourage you, offer you advice and some tell you “you're lucky that you have the time for that!” You don't know it yet, but it already motivates you. You're piecing together ideas and advice and you soon go shopping. You print out a color copy of The Running Clinic's beginner's program https://az675379.vo.msecnd.net/media/1092727/first5km.pdf. You feel like a kid again on Christmas Day in front of the christmas tree with your credit card. You're starting your new life!

3- The First Step

This is the third stage. THE first step! Everything has been ready since the night before, at the foot of the bed, properly folded. You even prepared 2 playlists. You charged your phone and your watch, new and shiny. It smells new, as your Uncle Raymond would say. It's blue (or turquoise) like the ocean that awaits you for your next vacation. You think about it while imagining how proud you'll be to put on your bikini in 7 months. You smile as you look at your new running shoes. You haven't started yet but you already see yourself 10 pounds lighter. You don't know it yet, but it already motivates you. You left a note for your partner on the table saying you've gone for a run and at the end you've added “are you going to come with me tomorrow…?” without forgetting the dot dot dot and the question mark!

4- The Sixth Week

Several weeks and kilometers later you feel great, both mentally and physically. You feel proud, a sense of accomplishment and well-being. You really feel the endorphins and are a bit dependent on it. You don't know it yet, but it already motivates you. Are your kids looking for you…? “Mom's probably running.” It's the transitional phase where the enjoyment and benefits blend together.

5- Vaporizing Endorphins

You run every week. You love it. You run even when you don't have the time. You run even when you have a cold. You run in the morning, afternoon or evening. You talk about jogging, gear and your latest route. You run while your partner is eating dinner. You run while your kids are sleeping. You run Saturday mornings, after your coffee break, with the dog or while your youngest is at hockey practice #hockeymom. You spend hours in espadrilles because they have become a necessity in your life. They are your new best friends. You sleep better and eat better. Everyone is jealous of your smile, your good mood and your healthy snacks. It's been a month since you remembered to check your weight. Before it was a weekly obsession! You don't know it but you've lost 11 pounds. You become an inspiration, you vaporize endorphins. People look at you without you knowing, pulling away the curtain with their left hand… and… You don't know it yet, but it already motivates you… because your neighbor who sees you running in the street asks themselves “why not me… ? ”

  2. Once again an excellent text! I love the simplicity in your sentences which leaves room for emotion, which allows you to appropriate it.

  3. I love this text, it made me smile by telling me: it's so me. I started three years ago (quietly not quickly) and now I run an average of 3-4 times a week. Last year for my 50th birthday, I ran my first half marathon with my daughter, I don't mean pride! I have even noticed that it is contagious, I have colleagues who have caught the bite, even even to train for a triathlon.

    See you in June.

  4. Wow! It is with a tear in the corner of my eye that I finished reading this wonderful text !!!! It touches me so much! I recognized myself in the fact that motivation started long before we realized it and remains present in many little things. And every time I run in cold or inclement weather, I often think to myself: “I hope to motivate someone to run!”. Thank you xxx

I am starting my 5th year of racing. Summer, like winter. I run 3 x week! I am made "addicted". It is so liberating and what well-being it can bring us !!!
Motivation is not lacking, rain or shine, I put on my espadrilles and off I go !!
    Thank you very much! 😀🏃🏼
