The humans behind the DMCB

Sometimes, during races, we forget that behind each race there are organizers, managers, volunteers, ambassadors, etc. Today, I would like to introduce you and thank the people who made this event a success. This will be a long blog post, I'll warn you and understand if you don't get through it, but you will understand that for me it is an honor to have collaborated with these people. With this post, I would like to show you the human side of running a race. Here then, without any form of order, the people who collaborated with the DMCB.

Parking manager - François Charest

Since 2010, I have been preparing training plans for Mr. Charest. So he was my "client", but I haven't considered him a client for some time. We call each other regularly to talk about running and he gave me a good helping hand during the Défi Entreprises (he had picked up some of the 300 cones!). As during the Défi Entreprises, Mr. Charest came with Mrs. Nathalie Malaison (his wife) and in addition, he recruited two of his friends, Luc Sauvageau and Michèle Jutras, whom I also thank! The four of them managed to fill the Boischatel baseball field with cars. Then, they were part of the lunch team, the one that produced hot dogs at lightning speed!

Sylvie Dallaire - Director of Leisure at Ange-Gardien

Obviously, the support of the municipality of Ange-Gardien was also appreciated during the preparation of the DMCB. It's always nice to see that you're dealing with passionate people. It seems the word passionate is overused these days, but I would describe someone passionate about their job as someone who does what they don't have to do, someone who gives that little extra . Sylvie gave a big extra last Sunday, she was present most of the day and gave me a big helping hand, in particular, she compensated for my mediocre talents in DIY.

Claude Martin - Director of Recreation at Boischatel

I have known Claude for a long time. In fact, the first race I organized, the Défi Boischatel, took place in collaboration with Claude, 2 years ago now. He had helped us out because we had a problem with Quebec City for our race on August 8, 2010. This year, Claude was of great help, because he was the one who suggested that I take the lane. avenue Royale towards the Ange-Gardien. Thank you Claude for this good idea and your desire to attract people to the west of the Côte-de-Beaupré.

Louise Gaboury - Leisure Coordinator in Boischatel

I had spoken on the phone a few times with Madame Gaboury, but I had the chance to meet her for the first time at 6 a.m. Sunday morning. Let's say it's early! Claude told me that Madame Gaboury would come and take some pictures, but in the end, she did a lot more than that, she took care of the bibs delivery for a large part of the morning! Thank you!

M. Lefrançois - Mayor of l'Ange-Gardien

A sign that the race was appreciated is that around 11 am, Mr. Lefrançois asked me: “When do we start talking about next year? "

That says everything.

Vincent Guillot - Municipal Councilor assigned to Leisure in Boischatel

Congratulations on your performance, on the microphone and on the run! Thank you!

Félix Riou - My younger brother, in charge of the locker room

I am extremely fortunate to be able to count on a very dedicated family. For this event, I must say that I totally approve of Félix's choice to be part of his school's international program, which "forces" students to do volunteer hours. Félix therefore convinced his friends that the most pleasant way to volunteer was to come and help us at 6 am! Félix Bergeron, Jérémie Robitaille, Kim de Bellefeuille, Anaïs Descoteaux, Maude Payant, Jessica Chenel therefore came to help us. It was greatly appreciated and it is always encouraging to see 14 year olds being so “serious” in their volunteering. This is partly why I have 100% confidence in our future!

Michel Mercier - circulation

Michel, an iron man (Ironman Tremblant 2012), changed positions twice (my fault) during the event. I did not have the chance to see it at work, but reliable sources told me that it had been very useful to traffic. I've known Mike for a while too and he's always ready to lend a helping hand. Much appreciated Mike!

Julien Riou and Claire Morasse - Lunch

If I remember correctly, my uncle and aunt were present in almost all the events that I organized. It's always nice to be able to count on 2 people who are always in a good mood and who know how it works. Safe values! It should also be noted that Julien is an expert in the art of loading a truck with a man named Marcel Riou.

Sylvie Martin and Jean-Philippe Garceau - circulation

Two friends I have known from college, when I was a badminton player. Thank you 2 for coming to ensure good traffic flow, even if it is not the most pleasant task to deal with motorists in a hurry!

Sarah Grenier and her RSP Project team

Sarah is organizing a project that aims to rebalance overconsumption from rich countries to countries in dire need. The DMCB financially supports the RSP Project with great pride. What I particularly like about this project is that we see the direct impact that our donations have on the population there. We know we are making a difference. Still, Sarah and her team of volunteers ensured that traffic was adequate on Avenue Royale, which is no small task. Thank you and well done to them!

Frédéric Bouchard, traffic manager

The guy you saw on the bike was him, Frédéric Bouchard, a friend of mine and also a colleague at Fradette Sport and also an occasional blogger on CAP.ca. Those who know me know that I don't like to delegate responsibility too much, except for the DMCB the traffic was too big a chunk for me to handle on my own. So I trusted Fred BO. I have never regretted this choice. He knew how to manage the unforeseen like a champion. Thanks Fred!

Mathieu Boucher, first aid manager

Math, in addition to being Fred's roommate, a Fradette Sport alumnus and occasional blogger on CAP.ca is also a nurse. It's always fun and it gives you confidence to have someone to count on when organizing an event. It's even more pleasant when this person tells you:

- (Math) What time do you need me Sunday? '

- (Daniel) 7h

- (Math) But you are going to be there at what time?

This is what we call a "real".

Jérôme Riou, daycare manager

He is my other brother, the older of the two, but younger than me. Jérôme is a reliable source when it comes to organizing a daycare service for a race: always present and he loves children. He is also studying teaching and I hope my children will have teachers like him. Thanks I!

Marcel Riou, lunch manager

Marcel Riou is my father. He'll never admit it, but I think he enjoys helping me run races. He has the opportunity to help me and show me that he is a logistics pro. It is true that the waiting times are never long and that he is very far-sighted. 3 weeks ago, I was thinking of cooking corn on a burner… My father decided otherwise and made me realize that we needed at least 5 burners! Phew! Special ability: load a truck with Julien Riou.

Céline Tremblay, also responsible for the lunch

My mother rather works in the shadows. She likes to make posters, think about the little details, basically, she gives me a big helping hand!

Josée, my mother's friend - lunch team

Josée is a friend of my mother's who was part of the big lunch team. She is always present, always on time, always smiling. Thank you!

Sylvain Fortier - In the lunch team

Mr. Fortier is a reader of this blog who has volunteered his time for the DMCB and the Défi Entreprises. I was told he served juice relentlessly throughout the event, thank you very much!

Julie Dumont… and her children… and her boyfriend

Julie Dumont reads this blog (I think) and is part of the Facebook running group “run with Facebook friends in Quebec”. She, 3 of her (many) children and her boyfriend donated water during the race. In fact, Julie helped me out, because she was responsible for water point 2, a "job" that she accepted at the last minute!

Marie-Anne Comtois and Jolène Bossé

I received a spontaneous offer from these two nice people to donate water during the race. It's always fun!

Sophie Puppe, manager, water point 1

Sophie Puppe is my girlfriend, which means that her number 1 task was to endure me during the last week before the DMCB… She was also in charge of water point 1 with Felix's friends. Sophie, she's the one who also designed most of the posters you've seen. Thank you! If you think she has a weird last name, it's because she's German… Don't tell her I told you!

Yves Lefrançois and his sons

Yves, it was my friend who opened my eyes to running. If I'm writing this blog today, it's kind of her fault. If I organized the DMCB, it's also a bit his fault, if I run today, it's also partly his fault. He was the one who suggested to me two and a half years ago to organize races in the Quebec City region. I accepted, without really knowing what I was going to get into and above all, without suspecting that there would be nearly 2 people during an event 700 years later. Yves, it was the host! After each event, I always ask myself which radio station he works on. Yves does not work in a radio station, he is a natural communicator! In addition, he came to help me accompanied by his 2 children, Christophe and Alexis! Thanks guys!

Rino Lagacé - ambassador

Rino Lagacé certainly attracted many people to the DMCB and I am very grateful to him! Thanks Rino!

François Drouin - Ambassador

François Drouin, this seasoned runner, came to run the DMCB and wrote a summary of his race on his blog: Run to exist. Thank you François!

Vincent Ostiguy -Ambassador

Thanks Vincent! I hope to have the chance to meet you next time!

Frédéric Savard - Ambassador and journalist

Frédéric wrote an excellent article in l'Autre-Voix. To read the article, click here!

David Castonguay - participant

I played badminton with David and his wife (they are married!), Anouk, at Cégep. He has now started running. He gave me a hand during the Défi Entreprises and he came with several members of his family to the DMCB! Thank you!

Karine Pépin and the other sports center employees

Karine is a very dedicated recreation center employee. She was there until 18 p.m. Saturday during the assembly and was present from 6 a.m. on Sunday morning. Thank you very much to you and to all the recreation center employees present!

I think that's it, there are two people who told me that they would be present, but that I didn't see, so I can't talk about it. If this sounds like you, email me at daniel@courseapied.ca and I'll add you!

  3. It's nice to see the involvement of so many people, including your family and friends. It is also very beautiful to know how to thank them so well and to feel that it is appreciated! Thank you for the organization and for my part, to do again next year, as a runner, if not as a volunteer!
